Living with Addict parents is a scary thing. I have lived with my Step-father, who is addicted to alcohol. He has blamed me for every single one of his mistakes. It is hard to try to grow up with that kind of environment.
I have made a few simmple ways to try to keep your sanity while living in that kind of environment.
The first is to Analyze The situation.
If Your parent is under the influence of some mind altering substance then it would be good to try to notice when those times come. In those times go with my second piece of advice, which is to Relax And Breath or pray.
When My Step Father was under the influence I used to get stressed out and I would end up agitating the situation even more than necessary. So I ended up praying but some people aren't into praying or God so if you aren't then you could go for a quick stroll around the block or out for some ice cream. Its good to try to keep yourself away from those situations and to try not to make yourself upset.
The Next step is to Get Some Help.
Yoou could useone of our counselors, a school counselor or a friend who can help you get through these tough times.
My fourth piece of adivice is to Talk It Over with Your addict parent.
If you don't feel comfortable talking it over with just you and Him/ Her then bring over your Counselor or someone could make sure it stays just a discussion and no more than that. It is good for families to communicate and it is not healthy for families to stop communicating. Maybe you can be the person to get through to them, maybe you can help them, I don't know but maybe if you talk to your parents then maybe he or she will understand and be considerate and stop but if that's not the case then here is my fifth piece of advice.
It is to occupy yourself.
I joined a  team but a a club would be fine as well. Anything to keep you out of the house is an excelent thing to do. It is also hard to make friends living with the burden of an addict parent but in a club or team you can make friends. I have kept my self busy with clubs, teams, volunteer work and apprenticing. It's an awesome way to keep your mind off of the troubles at home and Make friends at the same time
